Green TD Steven Matthews met last week with Baltinglass GAA club to discuss plans for the club. ‘I was delighted to meet with the club Chairman - Robert McHugh and the management team this week to discuss the plans for improving facilities, attracting more members, young and older and ongoing community engagement’.

‘This is a club that is at the heart of Baltinglass and surrounding area and continuously works at community building initiatives, inclusivity and optimising their sports facilities’.
Following the meeting Matthews said ‘The club has applied for sports capital funding to improve drainage on the two training pitches and create a community walking track around the grounds. I’m fully behind Baltinglass GAA club and I have been in contact with Minister Martin & Minister Byrne to ensure that they know about the benefits this funding will bring to the club and the wider community.’
‘I’ve also written to the Minister about the great work the club is doing on attracting and supporting new members. The series of initiatives including the ‘Mothers & others’, ‘Sports for All’ and outreach to local schools and groups to encourage people who may have never played GAA sports before to get involved in the club at their own pace. The ’La na gClub’ community day and the 24hr ‘Kickathon’ fundraiser demonstrates clearly that Baltinglass GAA Club is an important focal point for the entire community.
‘I also discussed the energy efficiency and money saving works being carried out with SEAI grant support to upgrade the pitch lighting to low energy LED lighting. I also plan to work with the club later this year on grants for solar panels and EV charging points in the grounds.’
‘I am very hopeful for a positive outcome on funding applications from many sports clubs I have met with over the last few years and will continue to work closely with them on future development of their facilities’ concluded Deputy Matthews.
