Busy Week of Events Planned Around Wicklow for National Biodiversity Week

Green TD Steven Matthews has offered his support the many events takings place around Wicklow for National Biodiversity Week in conjunction with Wicklow County Council, which are taking place from the 19th – 28th of May. Events include nature walks, workshops and information events aimed at increasing public awareness and appreciation of the plentiful natural habitats and rich Ecosystems in Wicklow.

Speaking before the week begins, Deputy Matthews said:

“This year’s National Biodiversity Week promises to be one of the best ever with a jammed packed schedule of events and interactive experiences planned around Wicklow. These family friendly events will offer people wonderful opportunities to get more familiar with the nature which they may otherwise pass by every day. The week will also be an invaluable opportunity to outline the bio-diversity crisis we continue to endure.

“The protection of our natural habitats and Biodiversity is incredibly important and it is an area which I and my Green Party colleagues have prioritised during our time in Government. Most recently, we have secured the provision of Biodiversity officers in local authorities across the country, and in recent weeks I introduced a Private Members Bill in the Dáil aimed at protecting Urban Trees. To solve the Biodiversity crisis, it is vital that the public get involved in the fight. I cannot wait to get involved with the events around Wicklow and I hope to meet many of you there,” Deputy Matthews concluded.
