“Consistent Reliability Issues with the 133 Bus” – Steven Matthews TD

Green TD Steven Matthews has called for Bus Éireann to address consistent reliability issues on the 133-route between Wicklow Town and Dublin city centre. This route serves Wicklow Town, Rathnew, Ashford, Newtownmountkennedy and Kilmacanogue.

“I am very frustrated by the unreliability of the 133 service. I have been contacted several times per week by passengers on this route who have been let down by this service and have been unable to travel to work, college, and medical appointments. Buses on the service have been consistently late, unreliable and are lacking in capacity with many people unable to board the bus it can be full once it leaves Wicklow Town. Transport information provided on the TFI Live app is also often inaccurate, leading to confusion for passengers.

“I contacted the Area Manager for Bus Eireann to raise these concerns but the response that I received did not adequately address the existing service delivery issues on the route or propose potential solutions that would benefit frequent users of this service. Subsequently I have made a submission to the National Transport Authority seeking proper answers and proposals to enhance the reliability of the route.

“Improving access to public transport is one of my key priorities as Green Party TD for Wicklow. In order to be a viable option for commuters, public transport must be frequent, reliable and affordable. To see a route that services so many different locations in Wicklow failing on two of those criteria is extremely frustrating as a Green TD.

“I will continue to push for improvements on this route with Bus Éireann and the NTA and if anyone wishes to raise a specific issue in relation to the 133 route or other transport routes, I would be more than happy to engage directly with the Bus provider on their behalf”, concluded Deputy Matthews.
