County Wicklow home energy upgrades on course to double in 2023 says Matthews

Wicklow has seen a significant increase in home energy upgrades in 2023 and is on course to double the amount of upgrades completed when compared to 2022 says Green Party TD Deputy Steven Matthews. With €356 million in funding allocated to SEAI this year, Deputy Matthews is encouraging homeowners to connect with SEAI to futureproof their home, save money in energy bills, and play their part in addressing climate change.

Deputy Matthews said, “The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has received record funding this year for residential and community retrofit and I urge anybody interested to make contact with them. From 932 home energy upgrades completed in 2022 in County Wicklow, there were 366 completed in just the first quarter of 2023. Demand is growing as people realise the value of the investment that will slash their energy bills. There is a number of different grants available depending on the age of your home and its requirements. There is a grant available for homeowners on social welfare that may cover the entire cost so it’s really worth looking into. We are fortunate here in Wicklow to have a number of Sustainable Energy Communities. These communities have a local SEAI mentor who can work with you and connect you with likeminded members of your community.

“There’s an ideal opportunity to find out more about Sustainable Energy Communities at the Energy Awareness Day on June 24th, which is being hosted jointly by Wicklow SEC and Greystones SEC and being supported by Wicklow Tidy Towns. You can learn all about how to improve the energy efficiency of your home in an accessible enjoyable way. The event is free and is being held at Wicklow Pastoral Centre between 11am and 4pm.

“In the meantime, feel free to contact me directly or your local SEAI rep if you want more information about grants available.”
