Funding to Bring Life and Vibrancy Back to Wicklow Town Centres – Matthews

Green TD Steven Matthews has encouraged Wicklow Town Teams and local groups to apply for funding to tackle vacancy and dereliction and bring life and vibrancy back to Wicklow Town centres. The Town Centre First Suite of Supports will provide €4.5 million nationally in grants to community organisations seeking to establish Town Centre First Teams and develop Town Centre First Plans.

Welcoming the announcement from the Department of Rural and Community Development, Deputy Matthews said:

“Town Centre First is a key objective of the Green Party that supports local communities to tackle issues of vacancy and dereliction and bring life and vibrancy back into town centres so that they become better places to live, work and visit.

“I am delighted that over €4.5 million nationally has been announced under the Town Centre First Suite of Supports. This will provide local organisations across County Wicklow with the opportunity to establish Town Teams, develop Town Centre First plans and pursue projects that will enhance town centres. Existing Town Teams are also eligible to apply for supports under the scheme. This is the right approach to take and will enable local groups to play their part in developing Town Centre First plans.

“I have seen the benefits that a Town Centre First approach can have and I would encourage both existing Town Teams and local groups in Wicklow interested in forming Town Teams to apply for funding under this scheme. Local Town Regeneration Officers or the National Town Centres First office can be contacted for further information on the applications process. I would be happy to support any group in their application, and if this would be of interest, please reach out to my office”, Deputy Matthews concluded.
