Green TD Steven Matthews has welcomed an additional allocation of €15,773 funding to improve the accessibility of Blessington Playground for children with disabilities. This new Inclusivity project was awarded €15,773.72 under the Capital Grant Scheme for Play and Recreation. This is in addition to previous work carried out in previous weeks which included the installation of a new accessible swing.
Welcoming the funding announced by his Green Party colleague Minister Roderic O’Gorman, Deputy Matthews said:
“This is a much-needed investment which will transform Blessington Playground into a space for recreation that can be enjoyed by all children.
“Access to safe, accessible, and creative spaces to play is fundamental for children’s wellbeing and development. We must ensure that our playgrounds are designed to promote the inclusion of children with disabilities. I am delighted to see that Wicklow County Council has been awarded this additional funding to improve the accessibility of Blessington Playground.
“I had been contacted by disappointed parents in recent weeks due to the brief closure of the playground but between the initial work just completed and the further works that will be carried out as soon as possible, I know that the brief inconvenience will be worth it.
“I look forward to the Inclusivity Project in Blessington Playground progressing and I will work with Wicklow County Council to avoid any delays. Blessington is a growing town and its so important that we maintain the level of services available for all residents to match that, concluded Deputy Matthews.
