Matthews Celebrates Upcoming Heritage Week in Wicklow

Green TD Steven Matthews is encouraging people across Wicklow to attend events during Heritage Week, held from August 17th to 25th. Over 60 events are on in Wicklow, including historical walking tours in Bray, nature talks in the National Botanic Gardens and LEGO workshops in Glendalough.

Speaking following the announcement of Heritage Week in Wicklow, Deputy Matthews said:

“I am delighted to see that many local groups and organisations across Wicklow are participating in Heritage Week. The theme ‘Connections, Routes and Networks’ celebrates how we connect to each other, the links between people and communities. There is an incredible line-up of events celebrating Wicklow’s heritage including our nature, wildlife, monuments, folklore, and history.

“I would encourage everyone to visit the Heritage Week website and check out the events that are happening in Wicklow. This year it is wonderful to see that the OPW is incentivising people to travel by public transport where possible.”

To celebrate the expansion of Local Link bus services across Wicklow, the OPW is offering free entry to Glendalough Visitor Centre for those who present a Local Link bus ticket between Monday August 19th and Friday August 23rd.

“It is incredibly important that we continue to raise awareness of the need to protect and restore our natural heritage through annual events such as Heritage Week. I’m looking forward to attending the events in Wicklow next week and I hope to meet many of you there,” Deputy Matthews concluded.
