Matthews encourages residents to visit pop up NBI information stand

Date: 20 September 2021

National Broadband Ireland – the company that is delivering the National Broadband plan is hosting a pop-up information stand on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th of September between 10am and 4pm at Tesco, Greystones. Discussing the news, Deputy Matthews said:

“I have been working with NBI over the last year on various issues from across Wicklow. One of the key issues that we’ve worked on has been minor mapping anomalies that have seek addresses mislabelled as being outside the intervention area for NBI. If left alone it may have had serious knock on consequences for those residents so I would encourage all those who are in the proposed intervention areas to make sure their Eircode is listed on the NBI website. In virtually all these cases, it was simply a case of human error and we were able to reassure the residents very quickly.

“This pop-up stand is a great opportunity for residents to speak with the experts in NBI to address any concerns they have, to ask about timelines, what impact the rollout will have for them and any other related matters. I’m looking forward to visiting the stand and recently had the opportunity to be on site with a crew from NBI site carrying out infrastructural work on the network and it was hugely impressive.

“The long-term impact that this rollout will have on rural areas is a complete game changer and despite delays brought about by Covid-19 – there is a huge amount of work ongoing to bring as many houses online as soon as possible. If people don’t have the opportunity to call to the information stand, I would ask them to get in touch with me directly and I will answer any questions I can.

“If this information stand proves to be useful and successful, I will be encouraging NBI to host similar future events further south and west across the county. It’s incredibly important that every household has all the information they need in advance of the full rollout and these type of information sessions are about answering questions and offering assurances to residents, concluded Deputy Matthews.
