Matthews welcomes funding for Wicklow Uplands Council projects

Green TD - Steven Matthews has said that he is delighted to support the Wicklow Uplands Council’s projects which were successful in receiving almost €34,000 this week for two conservation projects under the 2024 Peatlands Natura Community Engagement Scheme .

"The Wicklow Uplands Council is carrying out fantastic restoration and conservation projects and working successfully with many landowners in our rural Wicklow Mountain areas. This funding will enable further collaboration and help protect our fragile uplands areas and support those that live and work there."

"I want to thank my Green Party colleague Minister Malcolm Noonan who announced more than €458,000 in funding for 36 local community groups and organisations for projects across Ireland under the expanded Peatlands and Natura Community Engagement Scheme 2024.

This scheme supports local initiatives for the conservation and revitalisation of peatlands and promotes public engagement with and awareness of our natural heritage and environment. It is aimed at community-led associations and volunteer groups, which play a vital role in helping to promote and implement conservation and restoration projects in Ireland.

"I look forward to working with the Wicklow Uplands Council and offering my assistance and support for future funding and projects", concluded Deputy Matthews.
