Green TD – Steven Matthews, who has welcomed the announcement by the NTA (National Transport Authority) that sees an additional four services daily on the 65 Dublin Bus route from Blessington/ Ballymore to Dublin City Centre from Monday 26 August 2024. This means that the total number of inbound services to city centre increases to 18, and the total number of outbound services from the city centre increases to 17.
In addition, the 65A is to be introduced that will run from Blessington to Tallaght, Monday to Friday. This will serve the Square, Tallaght Hospital and offers onward connectivity via Luas and other bus services. There will be two departures from Blessington at 10.30 and 12.00, with a departure from Tallaght at 11.15.
Discussing the announcement, Deputy Matthews said:
“The 65 route is something that I have been working with the NTA directly on this year in particular. I have engaged with a huge number of residents in Blessington that rely on this service for work or college, and they frequently reported buses being full and not being frequent enough.
“The confirmation from the NTA that the 65 service will increase by 20% in the next two weeks is hugely welcome and comes just as schools and colleges start to return so the timing is perfect.
“The NTA and Dublin Bus has done extensive research on this route including looking at issues related to lateness and failed services, and I expect these issues to be significantly improved in tandem with the increased level of service.
“The separate announcement on the 65A that will offer service to the Square and connectivity with the Red LUAS line is extremely positive and will make up part of a much better level of overall service for Blessington.
“I will continue to work to ensure that Blessington is targeted for future public transport investment to reflect the growing population and clear level of demand, concluded Deputy Matthews.
