Steven Matthews TD has welcomed the new improved frequency of the 885 bus service from Baltinglass to Naas via Dunlavin, Stratford and Blessington. ‘The new improved service with 6 return journeys per day will start next Monday’ said Deputy Matthews. ‘I have a path beaten to the door of the NTA and Minister for Transport in my efforts to provide better public transport for Wicklow. So many residents from Baltinglass and Dunlavin asked me to provide a better bus service and I am delighted that we have done so. This service was introduced a few months ago, has been very warmly welcomed and I am glad that we now expand it to 6 return journey a day starting at 07:30 from Baltinglass which will also facilitate school going users.
One of my priorities has been to provide parts of Wicklow which have been always neglected in terms of services with better public transport options. The local link bus services now serve parts of Wicklow that never had a bus and last year, countrywide we introduced a new or improved service every week. I have greater ambition for Wicklow and I am making progress on a new bus service for Laragh/Roundwood to Bray Railway Station and for a local loop type service for Wicklow Town.
My project to deliver the DART service to Wicklow Town is an absolute game changer for residents in the Wicklow district. That project is going very well with design consultants progressing detailed options and designs to bring it to planning permission stage if required. I am confident of delivering the DART to Wicklow Town and as long as I represent the people of Wicklow they will get better public transport; Wicklow Town, Kilcoole and possibly Newcastle will have a DART service in the coming years, Roundwood will have a new bus and the current Local Link services 885, 183 will be improved as will the N11 bus routes 131 133 and further services to serve the new Park & Rides being built’ concluded Deputy Matthews.
