Wicklow to Benefit from Mid-East Regional Enterprise Plan

Date: 7 March 2022

I welcome the announcement that €180 million has been allocated to the Mid-East Regional Enterprise Plan. This is crucial following the Brexit and Covid-19 crises and will enable the delivery of several enterprise projects across Wicklow, including:

• The construction of a Food Incubation Centre to develop and support food businesses.

• The development and operation of a Content Creation Enterprise Hub at Wicklow County Campus, Rathnew, to promote employment in Wicklow’s screen industry.

• The establishment of a Crew Development Hub to provide training and skills programmes for those seeking crew roles in the film sector.

• The creation of Marine Enterprise Hubs at Wicklow and Arklow harbours to encourage the development of offshore renewable energy schemes.

• The construction of a Marine Training Facility at Wicklow County Campus, Rathnew, for the provision of training and further education initiatives for those working in the offshore renewable energy sector.

These projects will provide employment and promote sustainable development across Wicklow’s towns and villages. I particularly welcome the supports for the offshore renewable energy sector, as this investment will reduce carbon emissions and enhance Ireland’s energy resilience. I would like to thank all public and private bodies involved in the development of this plan, which will encourage SMEs and revitalise our town centres.
