Wicklow Groups to Benefit from Community Activities Fund

Date: 4 May 2022

Deputy Steven Matthews, Green TD for Wicklow, has welcomed the allocation of €282,686 to over 100 community groups across Wicklow under the Community Activities Fund. Following the announcement, Deputy Matthews said:

“I am delighted that 122 community groups across all municipal districts in Wicklow will benefit from the Community Activities Fund. This scheme was launched by the Department of Rural and Community Development in late 2021 and is administered by the Wicklow Local Community Development Committee.

“The funding will support local groups affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and enable improvements to facilities such as community centres, men’s and women’s sheds, parish halls and youth centres. It will also assist with the payment of utility and insurance bills; the cost of essential maintenance works and the purchase of new equipment including tables and chairs, tools and signage, laptops and printers, lawnmowers, canopies, and training equipment.

“The vital work of our local community groups impacts so many lives across Wicklow and I am delighted that the Community Activities Fund both recognises and supports this invaluable contribution to the sustainable development of our towns and villages.

“I would like to congratulate all organisations in Wicklow awarded funding under this scheme. If your local group has any questions on the process of applying for Government funding, please do not hesitate to contact me at steven.matthews@oireachtas.ie. I will continue to advocate for further supports at a Government level that will enable all of our communities across the county to thrive”, Deputy Matthews concluded.
